Arsenal 2-0 Everton: 16-Year-Old Max Dowman Sets Premier League Youngest Scorer Record in Late Drama

London – Arsenal kept their Premier League title charge firmly on track with a dramatic 2-0 victory over Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The win, sealed by two late goals, propelled the Gunners nine points clear at the top of the table and produced a historic moment as 16-year-old substitute Max Dowman etched his name into the record books.

For much of the match, Arsenal struggled to break down a resilient Everton side, who defended stoutly despite missing key defenders James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite. The Toffees even created promising chances, but goalkeeper Jordan Pickford's positioning proved costly in the closing stages.

The breakthrough came in the 89th minute when substitute Viktor Gyokeres tapped home from close range. The goal stemmed from a brilliant cross by fellow substitute Max Dowman, whose delivery deflected off Everton defender Piero Hincapié before Gyokeres finished.

Dowman, who entered the fray in the 74th minute, then delivered the decisive blow in the 97th minute. With Everton committing players forward for a desperate corner, the ball broke to the teenager midway in his own half. Displaying remarkable composure and pace, Dowman dribbled past two defenders, raced clear, and slotted into an empty net as Pickford was stranded upfield.

At 16 years and 73 days old, Dowman became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, surpassing the previous record held by James Vaughan (who scored for Everton at 16 years and 270 days in 2005) by 197 days. The strike also made him Arsenal's youngest-ever Premier League scorer.

The England youth international, born on December 31, 2009, in Chelmsford, Essex, joined Arsenal's academy at age eight after starting at local club Billericay Town. He had already broken records as the youngest player in Champions League history (15 years and 308 days) and youngest scorer in the UEFA Youth League.

Mikel Arteta praised the impact of his young star after the game, noting how Dowman changed the contest's momentum with his energy and quality. The Spaniard highlighted the creation of memorable moments for fans, as the Emirates erupted in celebration.

The result extends Arsenal's lead over second-placed Manchester City (who dropped points elsewhere) to nine points, strengthening their bid for a first Premier League title since 2004. Everton, meanwhile, remain in mid-table but will rue their inability to hold on after a disciplined performance.

Dowman's cameo has sparked widespread acclaim, with pundits and fans hailing him as a generational talent. His fearless display and record-breaking goal serve as a reminder of Arsenal's rich academy tradition and the exciting future ahead.

As the season intensifies, moments like this could prove pivotal in Arsenal's pursuit of silverware.
